Our research methodology

How Licensing Navigator distinguishes estimates from evidence-backed, human-approved licensing information.

01

Estimates are labeled as estimates

Entries without complete approved field evidence remain estimated. Their fee ranges are industry estimates, not verified state initial or renewal fees. A last-reviewed date records actual classification or review activity, not independent verification of each fact. Historical review dates that we cannot establish remain unknown.

02

Evidence and human approval

Verified status requires dated, state-specific official evidence for five fields: regulator name, license name, initial fee, renewal fee, and renewal period. Fee evidence must identify the license holder and what the amount covers. An official regulator outside .gov needs a government ownership reference checked by the human reviewer. Missing evidence or ambiguous fees block approval. Automated research creates pending drafts; an authorized human must check the evidence and explicitly approve the entry.

03

Review is on demand

We review records when an authorized reviewer evaluates submitted evidence or when a record is specifically brought forward for review. We do not promise continuous monitoring or real-time updates. Approval applies to the reviewed record and evidence, not every related city rule or future change.

04

Legacy records

Older dates or records created before this review workflow are not retroactively described as human-reviewed. A record is not labeled verified unless it meets the evidence and approval criteria now.
