What is the New York “Structural Pest Control License”?

New York does not issue a separate “Structural Pest Control License.” For structural work, individuals are certified by DEC as Commercial Applicators or Technicians in categories such as 7A Structural & Rodent Control , and businesses obtain a DEC Pesticide Business Registration. How long does it take to process the license application?

DEC does not guarantee a fixed processing time. For business registrations, DEC instructs applicants to submit at least 45 days before they intend to start services (and at least 45 days before renewal expiration). Certification cards are issued after DEC approves your application and you pay the invoiced fees. See Business/Agency Registration and Certification .

Do I need liability insurance to get licensed?

For businesses registering with DEC: yes—at least $1,000,000 per occurrence in commercial general liability naming DEC as certificate holder. Individuals obtaining personal certification do not submit liability insurance, but their employer/business must meet the insurance rule. See DEC Business/Agency .

Is an EPA-approved exam required?

No. New York exams are administered under DEC authority and New York regulations (6 NYCRR Part 325). See DEC’s certification information official New York licensing authority page .

What happens if I let my license lapse?

If a business registration lapses, you cannot legally offer or perform pesticide applications for hire. If individual certification lapses, you cannot legally apply or supervise commercial pesticide applications. DEC may take enforcement action for unregistered/unlicensed activity.
